TEAM Connections Afterschool Program

In November of 2002, Tennesseeans voted to create a state lottery. The General Assembly established that profits from the lottery go towards specific educational programs: college scholarships, early childhood programs and afterschool programs. Legislation specifics that 100% of UNCLAIMED prize winnings be used for afterschool grants.

In 2017-2018, Bledsoe County is completing our seventh year in offering an elementary afterschool program at all 3 elementary schools: Pikeville Elementary, Rigsby Elementary, and Wheeler Elementary. This funding of $120,000 provided an afterschool program designed to provide high academic expectations, positive behavior changes, combat absenteeism, and engage parents of all participants. It annually operates 7:15-7:45 AM Monday - Wednesday and 3:00-6:00 PM Monday - Thursday. If your child would like to know more about the program or participate in it next year, please contact your child's school or visit the LEAD teacher for your program to get an application.

—TEAM 2 We are ending our fifth year of Afterschool at BCHS & BCMS. It wassponsored by 21st Century federal funding in the amount of $109,100 annually. TEAM 2 provided remedial assistance to (BCMS) increase test scores in all subject areas and (BCHS) to improve ACT scores, decrease the number of suspensions among middle and high school students, and provide training and support services to BCHS & BCMS for job readiness, career pathways, post-secondary education, and financial self-sufficiency. This grant is reaching the end for Bledsoe County, but we still will offer a summer program in June, 2018. Contact Ms. Benita Cookston-DeBord at BCHS or Ms. Jadryen Anderson at BCMS to enroll for summer camp.
